At Roadtrip Africa we own all of our rental cars, and we never subcontract from third parties. Each car is serviced at our workshop in Uganda after every trip. Furthermore, we have a close network of upcountry workshops for minor onsite repairs. If you have a breakdown, rest assured that we offer 24/7 roadside assistance and always have a replacement vehicle available.

Comfort – Toyota Hilux Double Cab
With good ride height for game viewing, increased ground clearance and bigger wheels, the Hilux is a real pleasure to drive in the national parks. Compared to the classic Landcruiser, this vehicle also provides more comfort for its passengers when driving at higher speeds on asphalt roads. Your Toyota Hilux has a canopy on the back for easy access to camping equipment and luggage.

Classic – Toyota Landcruiser Box
Your safari classic – the Toyota Landcruiser box model. Classic, sturdy and reliable. It’s manual, has a 5-cylinder diesel engine and high ground clearance. Fuel consumption strongly depends on terrain, driving behaviour and load, but is in the range of 8 km/liter. NO A/C.
Fits 4 persons with plenty of room for your camping gear.

Classic – Landcruiser Troopy with pop-up roof
It doesn’t get more safari than this: the Landcruiser Troopy model with pop-up roof. No wildlife will go unnoticed from this viewpoint! The Landcruiser stretch has six seats. Note that when you travel with camp gear, this car can fit a maximum of 4 people only, as the booth is small.
Your Landcruiser drives manual, has a 6-cylinder diesel engine and high ground clearance. Fuel consumption is around 8 km/litre. NO A/C. When equipped with a rooftop tent, it’s incompatible with the pop-up roof. Know which vehicle to choose and what to expect: full car specs here.

Budget – Toyota RAV4 – 5 doors
The RAV4 is Uganda’s most widely used 4×4. Sporty, compact and robust, as well as easy and economical to drive. The vehicle is an automatic and in permanent four-wheel drive. Fuel consumption is very low compared to the Landcruiser: around 10-12 km/litre.
The 5-door model can fit up to four people. When you travel with three adults or more and want to add camp gear, the Hilux or Landcruiser is the car to choose. Find your full car rental specs here.
It is NOT possible to travel to Kidepo and Karamoja in an RAV4.

Budget – Toyota RAV4 – 3 doors
This is the 5-door RAV4’s little brother, but other than size, there are no differences between the two. Both RAV4s are automatic and have the same engine.
The smaller 3-door model fits two people with or without camp gear and personal luggage. It’s NOT possible to travel to Kidepo and Karamoja in an RAV4; for this, the Landcruiser or Hilux is required.
