About Jaldapara Tiger Reserve:

Situated in Alipurduar Sub-division of Jalpaiguri District.this vast grassland with patches of riverine forests, was declared a sanctuary in 1943 for protection of the great variety flora and fauna.

The Sanctuary is a home of extensive grassland,woods, swamps and streams which refuges a wide variety of mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds.

The wildlife, in addition to one-horned rhinos, consists of Royal Bengal Tigers, wild elephants, sambar, barking deer, spotted deer and hog deer, wild pig, Indian gaur or mithun and a number of species of birds and peafowl. Elephant ride is arranged at dawn for viewing of wild life.

The varied tree forests and rich shrub growth provide ideal setting for many woodland birds like Green Pigeons, Hornbills, Barbets, Parakeets, Woodpeckers, Cuckoos, Orioles, Drongos, Babblers, Thrushes etc. Brahminy ducks, Whistling Teals and Merganser are winter visitors. The most common birds are the large and little Cormorant, Indian Shag, Darter, Egret, Pied Wagtail, River Lapwing, Moorhen, White Breasted Waterhen etc.

About Buxa – Jayanti Tiger Reserve:

Buxa Tiger Reserve was set up in the year 1982-’83, which later in the year 1992, January, was declared a National Park.The historical place is famous for the ruines of the ‘Buxa Fort’. Buxa Duar is a Trekker’s Paradise with unique hills and nature’s splendour.

Buxa Tiger Reserve comprises the forest area of Rajabhatkhawa, Nimati, Barobisha, Rydak, Raimatang Jayanti, Buxaduar and Bhutanghat.

The main Attractions of BTR is Tiger, Leopard, Elephant, Clouded Leopard, Barking Deer, Gaur, Pangolin, and Python. Buxa Duar is famous for its prison fort. Shikiyajhora Eco Spot is mini Sundarban of Jalpaiguri District (Dooars).

Jayanti another picturesque tourists place in East Dooars. Here the Jayanti River provides a natural border with beautiful Sinchula hills. Jayanti is famous for its rich variety of wild life and exotic scenic beauty. A stalakite cave popularly known as ‘Jayanti Mahakal’ and ‘Pookri Pahar’ are well known destinations from Jayanti.
