Darjeeling District is the northernmost district of the state of West Bengal in eastern India in the foothills of the Himalayas. The district is famous for its beautiful hill Kalimpong, Kurseong and Siliguri, three other major towns in the district, Mirik, another town of the district, has been developed as a lake resort since the late 1970s in Darjeeling .The entire hilly region of the district comes under the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council, a semi-autonomous administrative body under the state government of West Bengal. The council covers the three hill subdivisions of Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong. In 1835, Darjeeling was annexed by the East India Company from Sikkim. Prior to that, Darjeeling formed a part of Sikkim and for a brief period of Nepal.

The Orange orchards at the places adds to the beauty. The name comes from the Lepcha ‘s language, Baramangwa means ” A big place of finger millet ”

ChotaMangwa is settled just beaneath Tinchuley of Darjeeling Hills and a three to four days trip comprising of  Chotamangwa, Baraangwa & Chatakpur can be your next choice. Chota Mangwa is an eco village in the Mangwa hills with a population of 150 families living nearby. The marvelous view of Mt. Kanchenjungha and equally wonderful sunrise will definitely charm you during your stay at Chota Mangwa.

Tinchuley and Chotamangwa can be reached via Teesta bazar from NJP/Bagdogra. From The road from darjeeling passes through Ghoom, Jorebangla and Takdah.

Takdah is a small town with wide spread tea gardens. Crossing this towndship you will find Tinchuley first and then Chhota Mangwa. The main road continues all the way up to Teesta Bazaar.

Mongpu where Bishwakobi Rabindranth spent a good time is located on the way from Kalimpng to Takdah. Spen an hour to this memorable and beautiful bunglow (named as Rabindrabhaban).

Chatakpur is a small eco friendly village within the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary in Darjeeling District, West Bengal.

This pristine village is bounded by the Kachenjunga Mountain Range in the North and the river gorge Relly Khola in the south. Chatakpur is only about 80 Kms from NJP or Bagdogra, 26 Kms from Darjeeling and 17Kms from Jorebungalow, Ghoom. Once upon a time this village was a timber den and people used to rampantly smuggle out the timbers. But the forest department has taken the initiative to remodel it to an eco tourism place where the villagers actively participate in it in order to make tourism an alternative source of livelihood other than just farming.
